Google come the SOPA protest. Proposed anti-piracy laws in the United States (U.S.) recently drawn protests from many sites online. Wikipedia, Google and Craigslist is a site that joined forces to protest about the proposed legislation. Wikipedia, online encyclopedia is a voluntary freeze its website for 24 hours starting yesterday. Google also joined to protest two proposed legislation, the Stop Online Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Properst Act (PIPA).

Search engines also could discolor the logo for the U.S. version of the website, and add a link at the bottom that reads 'please do not cencor the web'. Until now those links are still listed in the search engines. Through this blogspot, David Drummond, Google's legal director said the reason why the search giant is supporting the protest. "We think there is a good way forward, which does not cause collateral kesusakan on the web," he said, as reported by telegraph, Thursday (19/01/2012).

In addition to Wikipedia and Google, Craigslist online classified advertising service that is also popular protest. Meanwhile, other sites including Reddit, WordPress, Flickr, Twitpic and hundreds of people have also agreed to support a day of protests. Both SOPA and PIPA, both are attempts to address online file filtering problem by giving the power to shut down sites that make the material, such as movies, music and television programs, if you do not have permission from the copyright holder.

After complaints by copyright holders, this action will allow the website domain was confiscated. If the site is not a U.S. site or hosted in the U.S., then they have the power to force the U.S. search engines to remove links to Web sites and to U.S. payment networks or advertisers to stop doing business through the site. Critics of this plan, argued that the move would give too much power to copyright holders and may result in legitimate sites is stopped or seized without due process of law
